Thank you for all that you have done, Marika
Many of you will know and remember our lovely support worker Marika Townsend who retired in November 2020. She had so many plans of what to do with her time but sadly lockdown has put paid to most of them!
Like so many people, we were unable to give our devoted colleague the send-off we wanted, and instead had to do a retirement presentation by Zoom. However, she has assured us she will not be leaving us for good. She has promised to volunteer at our face to face support groups and friendship groups once they are up and running again.
During a small window of opportunity, she did manage to finalise the sale of her house in Maidstone and move to her beautiful new home overlooking the sea in Hythe with her husband Simon. Plans of touring New Zealand and walking the 181 mile long Thames Valley path from Kemble to Gloucestershire to raise funds for her beloved London Asbestos Support Awareness Group have had to be postponed.
However, there is no holding Marika down for long! She has been working as a volunteer befriender for some months now and has just recently finished her training with St John’s Ambulance to become a vaccinator in a local centre. If you live near Hythe, she could be vaccinating you! So much for retirement, it sounds as if she’s never been busier!
