Introducing Our Newest Patron


The Board of Trustees is delighted to announce that Professor Peter Szlosarek has become a Patron of the London Asbestos Support Awareness Group. He is a Professor of Medical Oncology at the Barts Cancer Centre and Institute, London, UK.


Prof. Szlosarek studied Medicine and Pharmacology at King’s College, completing a PhD in translational oncology at the University of London. He has been studying arginine dependent cancers for the last 25 years opening up a new area of therapy for patients with hard-to-treat cancers. His bench-to-bedside interests are focussed on mesothelioma with a particular emphasis on personalising metabolic approaches. He has pioneered the preclinical and clinical development of arginine deprivation in mesothelioma, culminating in the global phase 3 ATOMIC-meso study, a registration study of ADI-PEG20 (pegargiminase) combined with standard of care chemotherapy for pleural mesothelioma. He is a member of the Royal College of Physicians, EORTC, AACR and ASCO. He has received two prestigious clinical research fellowships from Cancer Research UK, and served two terms as Chair of the UK NCRI Mesothelioma Subgroup (2015-2022).


In accepting the role Prof. Szlosarek said "I’m delighted to be a Patron for LASAG to promote the cause of patients and families suffering from mesothelioma, a terrible injustice that continues to affect many in the UK and worldwide"

"Prof. Szlosarek has given great support to the charity over the years ever directed to the work we do to help patients and their families in some of their most difficult of times imaginable.  We are so very pleased he has accepted the role of Patron which will involve him even more and give the charity even greater opportunity to continue to improve under his direct guidance for the benefit of patients and their families"
