We are really excited and proud to announce the appointment of our first ambassador, Acute Oncology Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Sam Jayasekara.

Sam qualified as a nurse in 1995 and has worked in a variety of settings including acute, community and charitable sector and has worked in general areas, palliative care and oncology. She has been an oncology nurse and became a lung cancer and Mesothelioma Nurse in 2015 becoming more involved with Mesothelioma in 2022 where Sam was a Mesothelioma Clinical Nurse Specialist based at Broomfield Hospital in Essex.
Sam said "I worked alongside this amazing charity to be able to support patients, families and significant others who are affected by a Mesothelioma diagnosis. I was able to witness first-hand the support people were given and how it helped them during their most difficult times".
"It is an honour and privilege to be appointed as an Ambassador and I hope to continue the great work the charity deliver but also to be part of the evolving service to meet the changing needs of the service users. I hope to still be the voice of the people who are most affected by this when they feel that they may not have one".
Sam became involved with our charity in 2022 when she supported in the set up of the Essex support group. She has been have active in delivering education to patients, carers and health care professionals. These sessions are invaluable as it
often starts a conversation about how people cope and their own experiences.
Our Head of Service, Jodie Bull said "We would like to extend a very warm welcome to Sam at joining our team and we very much value the support provided in the past for our patients. We look forward to working closely together as part of the London Asbestos Support Awareness Group team".
